Collection Overview

The collection is composed of 109 original, copied, and mass-printed maps documenting World War II. Some of the maps also document aspects of the North Carolina home front during the war. Most of these maps were collected by the North Carolina Department of Archives and History during the their World War II war records project from 1942 to 1947. A number of the maps in this collection were removed from the North Carolina Office of Civilian Defense Records due to their size, and relocated to this collection. A large number of the maps were removed from individual veterans or donors' collections in the WWII Papers, to be stored together due to their size in the WWII Maps Collection. Each map is numbered individually, and is abbreviated "MilColl.WWII.Maps.[with the map numbere here]."
