Abstract
The 311th Infantry Combat Journal Unit History collection is composed of one original
311th Infantry Regiment's 144-page book entitled Combat Journal: The Story of the Timberwolf Regiment of the 78th Lightning Division
in World War II, 1944-1945. The 311th Infantry was activated at Camp Butner, N.C., on August 15, 1942. The book
contains a complete combat history of the unit in Europe, complete rosters of all
members of the regiment's various companies (with ranks and home towns), and rosters
of former unit members. The unit history includes on the back pages of the book the
original signatures and addresses of a number of members of the 311th Infantry, including
North Carolinian Nathan W. Allen Jr. of Burlington, N.C. The unit history was printed
in Germany while the 311th Infantry was stationed on occupation duty in Europe at
the end of World War II.
