Collection Overview

The images in the collection show scenes of North Carolina cities and towns, transportation, business and industry, education and religion, rural life, hotels, parades and public gatherings, disasters, county courthouses, etc. The photographs and negatives are primarily from the years 1905 to 1925, although there are a few later than 1925.

There are three boxes of negatives and two boxes of prints. The majority of the negatives from the book are in the collection. However, there are a limited number from the collections of other institutions and therefore are restricted. These negatives were retained by the institutions, which have custody of the original postcard. There are a few negatives which are missing. There are reference prints for approximately one half of the negatives.
