Abstract

Commemorative Composite Photograph of the Members of the Supreme Court of North Carolina on the 250th Anniversary of the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse, Edenton, NC. The court heard oral arguments in two cases in the historic Chowan County Courthouse on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 - one involving a man seeking to overturn his convictions in the death of a 5-year-old child, the other involving a former police chief seeking to recover employee benefits from the city of Greensboro. The Supreme Court session Tuesday was its third in the 1767 Chowan Courthouse in the past 13 years. It first held a court session in the historic courtroom in 2004. Its second visit was in May 2013 in recognition of the 300th anniversary of the founding of Edenton. The May 9, 2017, session in the 1767 Chowan Courthouse in Edenton is only the fourth NC Supreme Court session that has been held outside Raleigh since 1861 and was held in celebration of the courthouse's 250th anniversary this year.
