    Collection Overview

Papers of architect and consulting engineer T. Yancey Milburn of Durham and Washington, D.C., son of architect Frank P. Milburn. Only three letters (1936, 1945) concern his career before retirement to Durham in 1950. Correspondence (1958-1973) and scrapbook of clippings relate to activities as executive director (1955-1962) of Durham's Committee of 100, persuading new industries and Research Triangle Park to locate nearby. Other material concerns his work on the Durham Army Advisory Committee to improve civilian-military relations, including correspondence with army generals on building and naming the Army Reserve Training Center in Durham (1957-1962); army reserve reorganization; a seminar on American [Cold War] Strategy (1960); shortage of medical and other specialists in army (1961); the Vietnam War; and danger of civil disturbances in Durham (1968). Also printed material from Durham Rotary Club (1965-1973) and Durham Chamber of Commerce.
