Collection Overview

The Frontier Scouting and Indian Wars Papers is a records group within the Military
Collection at the State Archives of North Carolina. The materials in the collection
were collected by the North Carolina Historical Commission and the State Archives
of North Carolina (which formed out of the Historical Commission) after the Commission
was formed in 1903. The origins of some of the documents is unknown, as they came
in during the early days of what became the Archives. This records group was formed
the State Archives sometime between the 1920s and the 1960s, from scattered records
loosely connected by date and fact that it involved combat against American Indian
tribes and bands in North Carolina before the American Revolution. The collection
is arranged in 1 slim archival box.
The collection is composed of the following items:
Box 1
1754: Indian Attack on Buffalo Creek Settlement (Rowan County); 1758: Dr. Andrew Scott
for treating soldiers; 1759: List of men at Fort More; 1759: Rolls of scout companies;
