The Paymaster Department records series is arranged in several subseries as part of the Civil War Collection of the Military Collection at the State Archives of North Carolina. It is composed of: Paymaster Department, Pay Records, 1861-1864; Supply and Requisition Records, 1861-1865; and Miscellaneous Records, 1861-1865.

The Paymaster Department, Pay Records, 1861-1864, subseries is composed of various officers' pay vouchers as well as miscellaneous records of the Paymaster Department. The subseries is arranged in Box 30 of the old Civil War Collection arrangement.

The Supply and Requisition Records, 1861-1865, subseries is composed of requisitions by military units, hospitals, military posts, officers, and factories for camp equipage, subsistence, ordnance, and clothing stores; special requisitions by officers for uniform cloth for personal use; cloth requisitions for nonpersonal use; requisitions and requests for subsistence for soldiers' families; and other miscellaneous requisitions, receipts, and invoices. The subseries is arranged in Boxes 31-33 of the old Civil War Collection arrangement.

The Miscellaneous Records, 1861-1865, subseries is composed of correspondence of assistant quartermasters, financial statements, payrolls, contracts, bonds, invoices, receipts for supplies, statements of wages, quarterly returns, transportation passes, and requisitions. The subseries is arranged in Box 34 of the old Civil War Collection arrangement.
