Abstract

Willie Wilburn Myers (1901-1987) was the 11th-and 8th surviving-child born to Marion Leonidis "Lee" (1855-1918) and Athea Renia Gentry Myers (1861-1941). Willie and his siblings grew up in Chicken Hill-a mill village in Asheville. It was built for workers at the Asheville Cotton Mill, where many in the family worked as spinners or doffers. Willie married Rachel Hannah Stewart (1907-1997) and they had four children. In the early 1960s, the family moved to Lincoln Avenue in the Oakley neighborhood of Asheville, NC.

This collection consists chiefly of black and white photographs from roughly the early 1900's to late 1950's depicting everyday life with families, couples, cars, children, and neighbors.
