Collection Overview
Papers of Duffy, lawyer in Hillsborough and Fayetteville, consisting chiefly of letters and enclosures concerning court cases. Suits againts Gen. [Benjamin?] Smith, James Taylor, and Peter Mallett relate to western lands and settlement of Revolutionary army accounts. Letters (1798-1809) from Peter Browne, Eben Macnair, and John Read concern collection of debts owed to loyalists and Duffy's appointment as special agent. Other letters mention elections of 1796 and 1798, and Rebecca Bennehan (1798). Some legal arguments are made by Archibald Maclaine (1790) and Duncan Cameron (1802).
