    Collection Overview

Papers relative to erection of a monument over the grave of Anne Carter Lee (1839-1862), daughter of Gen. Robert E. Lee, buried in the family cemetery of Joseph S. Jones at White Sulphur Springs, Warren Co. Two letters (1864) relate to the invalid soldier who executed the monument, but most are drafts of invitations to the ceremony in 1866 and replies from Generals Lee, D. H. Hill, R. F. Hoke, Braxton Bragg, and Fitzhugh Lee. A cover note with Bragg's reply describes his current situation in Alabama. Also a note of thanks from Mary Custis Lee to Mrs. Jones (1873), newspaper clippings, and postcards.
