Typed undated reminiscences of Foard, Confederate soldier from Cabarrus Co. who served with Co. A, 20th Regt. NCT (1861-1863); with Co. F, 9th Regt. NCST (1st Regt. N.C. Cavalry); and as aide-de-camp to Gen. Rufus Barringer (1864-1865). Contains detailed, colorful accounts of infantry fighting in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland; cavalry action with deserters and Union troops in Virginia; his capture, escape, and journey home through enemy territory (1864); recapture and imprisonment at Fort Delaware; end of war; and return home. Included are descriptions of Generals Rufus Barringer, Wade Hampton, Philip H. Sheridan, and S. D. Adkins; many Confederate officers and men; battles of Seven Days, South Mountain, Antietam, Chamberlain's Run, and Five Forks; killing of prisoners and looting; Junior Reserves; a brigade tournament; and Concord after the war. Letters and affidavits (1917-1919), some of which are copies, concern the Battle of Atlee's Station, Va. (Mar., 1864).
