    Papers of Alexander Brevard, Revolutionary officer and Lincoln Co. ironmaster, including appointments as quartermaster (1778- 1782), papers concerning reorganization of N.C. Continental Line (1782), lists of men raised in Morgan District, broadside defending Gen. Nathanael Greene, settlements of Revolutionary accounts, recollections by Gen. Joseph Graham (1824), and pension claims. Letters (1790-1814) from brother Joseph Brevard, circuit judge in Camden S.C., concern sale of iron and cotton, duties of a judge, and growth of Columbia College (1803-1810). Other family letters describe daily life, society and occasionally Whig politics in the Carolinas (1820s-1850s), notably in Charleston and Columbia; and education at Salem Boarding School (1810), Columbia College, and UNC. Also letters about relatives in Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee, artillery in Georgia during the Seminole War (1818), medical studies at Lexington, Ky. (1822). Also land papers (1751-1844) from Anson, Tryon, Rowan, Rutherford, and Mecklenburg counties; legal papers and letters concerning slaves; articles of partnership in a South Carolina ironworks; Center Benevolent Society membership list and accounts (1788); militia appointments (1825-1833); a Lincoln Co. grand jury opinion on tariffs and secession (1830); mining rights agreement (1844); Western Plank Road Company subscription list; and song about Jackson and Clay. Also typed copy of Juliana M. Conner's diary of her 1827 journey from Charleston through North Carolina to Nashville where she met Gen. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson and Gov. Sam Houston.
