Papers of Major Walker, merchant, planter, and Revolutionary War officer. Deeds and grants relate to his lands in New Hanover Co. Letters (1787-1792) from Walker and John Parkinson to Joel Lane and from Lane to various persons, deal with Walker's purchase of lands in Wake Co. Letters (1801, 1805) from John Haywood in Raleigh also relate to land sales. Letters (1780) from Michael Levy in Edenton and New Bern concern trade and news of British in Virginia. Other items include list of slave births and deaths (1781-1810); census list (1800) of Walker's family, including slaves; memorandum of agreement (n.d.) for sale of ferry at Wilmington; a paper (1799) on the duties of a "naval officer" (customs official). Also a letter from Walker requesting fire insurance for houses in Wilmington, describing them in detail (1801); memorial to UNC trustees about escheated property in Wilmington (1797); and American, British, and Dutch passports issued to his nephew, John Walker (1815).
