Clyde Roark Hoey Papers, PC.1945

Papers include scrapbooks, speeches, and photographs of Hoey during the time that he served as governor of North Carolina, 1937-1941, and a small quantity of later material. The latter consists of Mrs. Hoey's Bible, 3 obituaries/memorials, a 1943 resolution of respect following g the death of Mrs. Hoey in 1942, and 6 resolutions of respect (some with letters of transmittal) following Governor Hoey's death in 1954.
Papers also include 90 speeches, addressed, statements, etc. by Governor Hoey. Of these, 44 are from 1938 (including his inaugural address), 44 from 2939, and 2 from 1948. There is a magazine article written by Governor Hoey, March 1938, and one about Mrs. Hoey, June 1938.
There are seven scrapbooks in the collections. Of the six concerning Governor Hoey, the first two cover political affairs and campaigns from 1928 through 1936; and the remaining four cover his gubernatorial year, 1937-1940. The seventh scrapbook (in the smaller of the two oversize boxes) covers the years from 1936 through 1938. Among the materials is a portion that was prepared for Mrs. Hoey by the Fannie Thompson Circle of the First Methodist Church, Shelby, N.C. Of the photographs in the collection some of them oversize. There is also a printer's intaglio plate made from a portrait photograph of Governor Hoey.
