Collection Overview
Papers of Wilder, publicity staff worker in campaigns of former Gov. W. Kerr Scott for the U.S. Senate in 1954 and of Terry Sanford for governor in 1960. Scott campaign material includes television film script; endorsement by Negro organization; newspaper and magazine articles and photographs; and maps of candidate strengths in counties. Sanford material includes reports on five Harris polls: two analyses of Democratic primary voters, issues, and candidates, with advice for Sanford (Jan. and Apr., 1960); one study of strengths and weaknesses of presidential candidates John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson in the state (May, 1960); and two statistical surveys of the presidential, gubernatorial, and senatorial races in the state (Oct., 1960). Also campaign schedules, including visits by Kennedy, Johnson, and President Truman; campaign speeches, statements, and biographical information; speech by Republican opponent Robert Gavin; printed material from Kennedy-Nixon campaign; speech on education by Governor-elect Sanford; and comments on speech in letter from James B.
