Papers of Dixon G. Conn (1840-1921) of Raleigh, storekeeper, justice of the peace, and employee of N.C. Dept. of Agriculture (1905-1920), including instructions to recover property of Chatham Railway Company (Sept., 1865); introductions to New York and Baltimore merchants (1867); Wake Co. deeds, mortgages, and tax receipts (1874-1921); guardian papers for heirs of A. H. Dowell (1877-1906); and civil and criminal action papers from cases in his magistrate's court (1905-1906). Other items relate to the Baptist church, Odd Fellows Relief Association, agriculture department employees, and Confederate veterans' organizations, with list of veterans in Raleigh, 1906. Papers of his children include reports from Raleigh Male Academy (1894-1896); family letters; and a few items about school principals. Papers of Elizabeth Walkup include correspondence during WWII about the home front, air bases in the U.S., and the China theater (1944). Also record of price of gold in Confederate dollars (1861-1865); letter from Thomas Pollock Devereux to his daughter (1869); first annual report of Associated Charities of Raleigh (1904); and brochure for sale of truck farms near Wilmington (ca. 1920).
