Collection Overview

Papers of family of Peter Thompson of Burke (later Caldwell) Co., including land grant, deeds, bonds, and slave bill of sale (1784-1870); copies of Thompson wills from Pennsylvania (1745) and South Carolina (1773); and Tryon, Burke, and Caldwell county estate papers of Moses, Peter, and Mary Thompson. There are assorted accounts and legal papers; and letters from relatives in Tennessee (1811-1833, 1885). Also church letter from session in Bershaba, S.C. (1773); oath of allegiance (1778); undated list of Capt. William Lenoir's company; instructions for tanning hides; and Thompson genealogical charts.
