Collection Overview
Memorandum book of Hooper, attorney, signer of the Declaration of Independence, member of the Continental Congress, 1775-1777. Many of the entries are accounts of fees received for legal services in criminal and civil cases in superior courts, with clients including John Alston, Richard Blackledge, Richard Dobbs Spaight, Thomas Harvey, and Samuel Swann. Other entries record traveling expenses, wardrobe, purchase of land, money borrowed and lent, bonds and notes held, and Negro laborers sent to a saltworks. The original is in the collections of the New-York Historical Society.
