    Collection Overview

Grants, deeds, plats, quitrent receipts, bills of sale, wills, estate items, promissory notes, and daybook from Chowan, Bertie, Tyrrell, Jones, and Wake counties, having little apparent relationship to each other. The daybook (1786-1790) records expenses of Josiah Collins, Samuel Dickinson, and Nathaniel Allen [the Lake Company] relating to their lands and slaves in Tyrrell Co.; and there are also a Collins slave bill of sale (1794) and list of taxable property (1826), and Samuel Dickinson's will (Chowan Co., 1802). For Joseph Eilbeck there is a deed (1798) and division of his slaves held jointly with Henry Dickinson (n.d.). For Miles Gale there are deeds (1733, 1747) and a record of council proceedings, including his petition about land (1745). There are two items in French relating to Thomas Barker's travels in Europe as an agent in 1778. Among the other papers are Bertie Co. wills of Peter West and Joseph and Isaac Jordan (1742-1790); bill of sale and deed to George Pollock for ship and three lots in Edenton (1763); assorted papers of Nathaniel Bond (1814-1820); and deed from George W. B. Burgwin to Frederick Nash for "Alveston Hall," Jones Co., 1812.
